Okay, so i stumbled upon a very tricky little question earlier today, and it really confused me for quite a while, but i think i got the right answer now :3
So here it is:
You saw a shirt for $97.

You didn't have the cash, so you borrowed $50 from your mom and $50 from your dad = $100.

You bought the shirt and had $3 change.

You gave your dad $1 and your mom $1 and kept the other $1 for yourself.

Now you owe your mom $49 and your dad $49.

$49 + $49 = $98 + your $1 = $99.

Where is the missing $1?

the way you put it is LIES.

100 - 97 = $3 change, one to me, one to my dad one to my mom = 0$ left over

so you don't owe both your parents $49, you owe one $49, and one $48 because you kept one for yourself

49 + 48 = 97 + 2 dollars you give to your parents and + 1 that you give to yourself = $100

There is no missing dollar

Easy

You borrow 50 from each parent if you divide 97$ by 2 for each parent you get 48.5$ for the shirt.

You give back 1$ to each parent that makes it 49.5$ or 99$ total.

That leaves you 1$ that you talk from your both your parents or 0.50$ from each of them.

Basically you made rounding mistakes.
