Opinions Plox #1

Lol so i read articles online when Im bored to death for my free time  i guess.
So yesterday, I read about how this 7 year old saves his family from burglars. he locked him and his baby sister in the bathroom and called 911 while the burglars had the parents as hostages.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100310/ap_on_re_us/us_boy_s911_call

so brave and dangerous, in the end the burglars barged into the room demanding to know who was on the phone and the little boy said it was the police and they ran out of the house and the police came.

what sucks is how my baby sister who's 11 years old, doesn't even know what to do when she gets lost. I asked her one day:
Donna: Jessica what do you whaen if you get lost?
Jessica: ask someone to take me home
Donna: Whats your home address?
Jessica: I don't know
Donna: Then how are you going to get home? Do you know mine, or mommy's, or daddy's, or even the home phone number?
Jessica: No
Donna: Then how can you get home if you don't know how to contact anyone?
Jessica: I can go to the police
Donna: How can the police help you if they dont know where you live or what your phone number is?

After that convo, I told my parents and they lectured to her how to memorize our address & home number. She got frustrated because she didn't know and started crying and ran to her room yelling "stop telling me what to do."

Like I thought it was common sense to know these things, but I guess it's not, nowadays, but then again, my baby sis is kinda dumb. Like, they even thought this in school to me when I was in 1st grade. I don't understand how she doesn't know.

There's a lot of adults on the forums/games and some with children..
So what I want to know is , isn't that something you teach your kids when they're young or if you were to have kids how to deal with emergencies situations?

I think they actually try to impress that idea into younger children more now. I think no one really saw the significance of it til about the time they came up with the whole amber alert thing.

would you classify as your shoe laces coming undone an emergency situation? cus if so, teaching them how to tie their shoes is quite important
