Main Server Update
« on: July 24, 2010, 10:25:47 AM »
Hey guys, just wanted to give you a heads up that I am upgrading the kernel today.

What changes:
+ More efficient use of CPU.
+ Less laggy high slot servers.
+ Able to bump up slots.

This is a big deal, since MiniGames & ZombieMod seem to be experiencing some lag at times. Now to the downsides :).

It will probably bring all the servers down for about 20 minutes while I reboot it and make sure it works, hopefully no "kernel panic" or complete server brain fart.

Hope it all works out, I will update this topic when I'm bringing them down!

Woot. Nice fix ;)
When you say "bump up slots" is that interchangeable with "increase tickrate?" That would be nice :D

Usually you bump down tickrate when you increase slots. From what I remember, the system goes like...
~20 slots = 100 Tick. ~32 slots = 66 and anything greater than 32 lots usually should be 33 tick. With the new orange box update though, they fixed a lot of the tick rate issues so servers shouldn't be too terribly different. Hope that clarifies.

That's what I meant. Like INSTEAD of increasing server capacity, we should be able to have higher tickrate...? As long as there's no noticeable difference it's fine :P

Well, we could increase tickrate, but I don't see why that would be needed. All the servers are currently running on 66 Tick.

Edit: Server kernel update didn't go through. I need to tinker with it.
