A quick note
« on: August 22, 2010, 10:52:29 PM »
Hey, I was asked by numerous people for my opinion on the rules in the MotD and whether they are enforced or not, or how far they should be enforced. I will update the MotD accordingly soon enough. Since I try to make the rules to fit the community, I feel I must explain it like this.

* No Micspam. should be. *No Micspam, EXCEPT if everyone wants to hear the music, with NO complaints.
I hear on occasion from many people that sometimes the whole server wants to hear music. If everyone agrees and "noone" complains about it, then I have no problem with the mic spam.

* Respect ALL players!
This goes without say. Do not insult little kids for getting on the mic. Everyone was there once before, heck I know I was. Also, I have no problem if two people are trash talking each other for fun, but its uncalled for to have people bullied on the net. Not to be cybernanny here, but I just want everyone to recognize that this is a fun loving community not a hateful one. If you happen to be one of those people with a personal vendetta against high pitched chipmunks or was just never a fan of that franchise, you should be opening your mute list more often, haha.

The rest of the rules go without saying, its all just common sense, moral code and respect. Cause I have respect for you all, and I would hope you have respect for others as well. Well, I'm off to bed, talk to you guys tomorrow.

Thanks to [NotD] SUPER TROOPER

Hm. That means some of our members need to follow that respect factor when it comes to kids.

ok you know the lil kid that mashes down his mic key and non stops talks usually sets the server off. who do we/you mute to stop the anger when the abuse starts, because it always goes there........
yes we have several youngins in our servers who know not to say every lil thought that pops into their head. then there are those who seem to enjoy pissing off the server.

now on to the mic spam. i am a fan of the music with the players consent but im a lil apprehensive to announce it.
i dont want trolls spamming music or thinking they can because an admin is not there to protect the other players gaming experience.

The latter qualifies as mic spam.

Solution: Report player and then mute him.
Also, the change the to "mic spam" part of the motd will most likely not bring in an influx of new mic spammers. They come and go as they please, disregarding the motd no matter what it says oft times.

but the worst part is to tell someone they are mic spamming and then spend the next five minutes debating with them whether or not it is a rule and the motd word for word

There is no debating with admins.

If there is no admin and you are sure he is spamming: report and mute.

im saying when someone is breaking a rule and as a fellow player you tell them to stop and they want to argue. and then the long process of getting a demo and SS and reporting them...

I have to say I disagree with the little kid thing. It's not supposed to be sold to under 16 year olds here and under 17 year olds in the US. I dont see why they should be allowed to annoy people over their microphone. Now I understand if you're a girl that you're voice is different, but when it's the ten year olds who have extremely high voices and are asking you to be their friends? I disagree.

Sorry to revive a dead topic, but I would like an official NOTD statement on what "mic spam" is (don't reply unless you are an admin, because all you would have are opinions).

Also, questions:
Is it limited to music? How often must a sound be played to be considered spam? Is it ok to play short sounds every minute or two or whenever they are called for (this is what I do) in order to be exempt from being asked to stop? Are people allowed to complain about the playing of occasional short sounds in order to get the person to stop?

What about this: if ONE person is asking you to stop playing occasional short sounds and other people (plural) are saying, "Play it! Play it!", is it ok to tell the one person to mute you so you can - for lack of a better word - satisfy the rest of the server? Is it possible to mute your voice to that particular person (there's an idea!) so they can't hear you but everyone else can? Maybe by blocking them on Steam Friends, your voice is automatically muted to them or something.
